Top Ten Books I Can’t Believe I’ve Never Read

Top Ten TuesdayHappy Tuesday, everyone! I hope everyone is having a splendid week. I’m excited because tonight my girlfriend and I are going to Cheap Movie Tuesday at our local theater! Popcorn love.

So, this week over at The Broke and the Bookish, the topic is top ten books on our fall TBR list. However, I think I’m going to tackle one of their past topics instead: books I can’t believe I’ve never read. This is going to be an embarrassing post.

10. 1984 by George Orwell. I started reading this book during my lunch breaks at the worst summer job I ever had: cleaning hotel rooms. When I think of this book, I remember being extremely hot and sweaty, hands and knees covered in cleaning chemicals. It was gross. Maybe this is why I’ve never finished it. But I should.

9. Catch-22 by Joseph Heller. I feel I can’t even use “catch-22” in a sentence, because I haven’t earned it yet.

8. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Steig Larssen. I started this, and about 100 pages in it still wasn’t good, so I gave up.

7. Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer. I just feel like everyone has read this except me. And there’s the movie, but I haven’t seen that either.

6. Life of Pi by Yann Martel. I have seen this movie. Unfortunately, after I saw the movie, I felt as though reading the book was no longer a pressing matter.

5. The Shining by Stephen King. Every October I read horror books—and that usually includes at least one Stephen King—but somehow I’ve never gotten around to this one.

4. The Chronicles of Narnia. I’ve read the first two—The Magician’s Nephew and The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe—but I’ve never gotten around to the others.

3. The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien.

2. Me Talk Pretty One Day by David Sedaris. My girlfriend loves this book, but I’ve only read a chapter or two.

1. Franny and Zooey by J.D. Salinger. Another of my gf’s faves, and one I’ve been meaning to pick up for ages.

Are there any books you can’t believe you’ve never read? Do you plan to (or want to)?

  1. HA! Love your comment about Catch 22! I guess I need to stop using that phrase as well! I have to admit I’ve only read one of the books on your list–Franny and Zooey. If you like Salinger, it’s a must-read. Interesting post!

    1. Thanks! Maybe one of the reasons I’ve never read Franny and Zooey is because I was never that impressed with The Catcher in the Rye. I do want to give it a try, though. By the way, I heard there’s a new biography out on Salinger.
